Notes
Harriet,Justine and comfort made a surprise visit to Nawandyo B. This was intended to assess whether participants use their stoves on daily basis, have smeared their home facilities and if not they will find out why and guide them on how best to improve. They walked home to home while inspecting the stoves and other home facilities. They walked in around 15 homes and found 14 homes when they were using their stoves on daily basis basis and this was evidenced by the absence of three stones fire in the kitchens. Participants told them that from the time they tested or started cooking on the fuel efficient stoves , they abandoned the three stones/ open flames because of the benefits they saw compared to the challenges they experienced when they used to cook on open flames. These benefits included using less firewood, venting out smoke due to the chimney that is put on the stove. It cooks food fast because the woman is able to cook two things at ago that is cooking food and sauce at the same time and this has improved on marriage relationship. However, they found three stones fire in one of the homes along side the fuel efficient stove. Harriet got an opportunity to ask the own of the home the reason why she was using the three stone fire /open flames alongside the fuel efficient stove. She told her that she was cooking her traditional medicine on open flames because by tradition the medicine is not supposed to be cooked on the same stove that cooks food. Harriet encouraged her to build a separate stove for her to cook her medicine to avoid challenges that may a raise from cooking on the three stone fire. She promised to do it since she learnt how to build stoves Also most of the homes they reached had smeared their home facilities and encouraged those one who had not yet smeared to do so. They were still inspecting other homes then it started raining heavily and since the road to Nawandyo is bad they had to leave immediately.
