Notes
While in kishaike village, Tom moved around the upper section of the village checking on sanitation and hygiene improvements as well as facility constructions. Tom was, also encouraging residents about the iron sheet contributions so that they can be able to roof their latrines. Tom and the three committee members started off from the section of the village around the borehole and moved to the upper section. In the first homes they visited, they found one home with a new pit and two homes with new dish racks which one of the committee members had helped them construct. The residents were very happy for the dish racks as one resident said that ever since she got her dish racks, she has never put dishes or washed dishes on the ground and he said she has also encouraged all her children to use the dish rack for washing and drying the dishes. Tom also encouraged her to use ash on her Latrice as the latrine had many flies. In one of the committee members homes, they found that he did not have a kitchen and the rest of the committee members encouraged him to construct a kitchen for his wife. He said he will soon buy bricks and construct a kitchen for his wife. In one home, they found two young boys ages 13 and 14 helping their elderly father dig a pit for their new Latrine. When asked why they had decided to do it, they said their father does not have the money to pay some one to dig the pit and yet they need a latrine in their home. The elder brother said he will also help with the construction as well as his father is sick. Tom thanked the boys and encouraged them to continue being with such a good heart. One of the committee member said he will help the boys with the poles for the Latrice if they can cut them themselves. The boys were and encouragement to the committee members and the committee members were very thankful.
