This visit was to asses the village need, check the borehole that was in extreme need to be repaired and meet with some village leaders. This village applied to Kibo group through the district water office requesting that their borehole needed repair. This request was made about two years ago and now an opportunity has come to help and fix the well after funds were secured to get this borehole fixed. Alex managed to also check a few homes in the village to asses the village sanitation and hygiene and for sure the village need to be assisted to improve their sanitation and hygiene standards as many of the required facilities were not seen in the homes visited. The village leaders also said that their village had never had any program from any NGO and government since 1993 when they had a sanitation program before getting their only well during the RUWASA program. The borehole is indeed in desperate situation with the pedestal having holes all around that the pipes are exposed and anything can easily be dropped into the water that people drink. The village is comprised of about 250- 300 households that get water from this well. WASH group will plan another trip back to this village to meet with the leaders and plan to carry out a baseline survey of the village in preparation to officially start to work in this village. This will be a new village for WASH beginning 2020.
