Notes
Enock and Martin made a visit to follow up on home which are still digging new latrine and also working on their new hand washing stations. When they reached the community, they made a visit to the chairman’s home who was also digging his new latrines, and initially his old latrine broke down due to heavy storm. There are also some of the residents whose latrine broke down but they are working hard to to construct new latrine which are strong. We encouraged all the homes we walked to to construct good and sustainable facilities to avoid repeating the same things over and again. The community members are also working on their dish racks, shower areas, kitchen area, maintenance their sanitation to use ash in their latrines. I was so impressed to see some families which for along time they didn’t have a proper latrine I there homes, they have built a new latrine and using it. The wife in this home was super excited and called me to come a visit their latrine, give them some ideas and guidance on how to maintain proper sanitation and how to keep it clean. Enock taught them the benefits of ash, also encouraged them to smear the latrine and also use Cement on the floor if they can afford it to make a good foundation. There some new hand washing stations which we saw and encouraged the children and elders to wash their hand every time after visiting the latrine and before eating. There are many kids who are back for holidays, it was an opportunity to also encourage them to help their parents and promote good sanitation. We also taught them the dangers of open defecation since most children are the ones who practice open defecation. The chairman appreciated the time we also spent with the children since they are the next generation.
