Notes
Ida was requested by Ikumbya community to go and help teach them mix the chicken feeds. Ida asked the secretary to get the book because the mixture of feeds have some calculations. Ida was surprised when five members took out the books and pens ready for taking notes. Ida reminded the community as this wasn’t the first time teaching them this mixture. She encouraged the community to always take the lessons as serious. Ida told them that they were going to learn three types of feeds which are 1 chic and duck mash 2 Growers Mash 3 Layers mash Chic and duck mash is for chics from day one to 8 weeks. And below is the recipe Maize brand. 62kgs Cotton seed cake. 25kgs Silver fish. 10kgs Shells. 2kgs Pre mix ( general purpose) 1/2kg Salt. 1/2kg This will make a bag of 100 kgs. Ida also gave the community some easy way to do if one cannot do it alone. She told the community to make groups of four people that they divide the 100kg back into four people. If it costs 80000sh, then each one will contribute 20000sh each. Growers mash is chickens from week 9 to week 20. And this is mostly given to roosters. By this time a member will have known the kind of chicken whether hen or cock. Feeds must be changed as we do with our babies at certain periods. The ingredients remain the same but the quantity changes. Maize brand. 70kgs Cotton seed cake. 20kgs Silver fish. 07kgs Shells. 02kgs Pre mix (general purpose). 1/2kg Salt. 1/2kg Give as much water as possible. Layers mash is for chickens from wk 18-adult or ready for sale and for hens. Maize brand. 69.2kgs Cotton seed cake. 18kgs Silver fish. 5kgs Shells. 6.8kgs Pre mix(layers premix). 300gms Salt. 300gms Next time will look at the ratio, how much food is given to 5 chics?
Next Visit
2020-01-15 - Purpose: Teach the community the ratio of feeds.
Program Success
Ikumbya has a big chicken project. They have two hundred chickens and have started laying eggs. The two hundred are for the group but again each member has their own chickens which are also laying.
Program Critical Needs
Need a vet doctor from the district to help and advise where necessary.
Program Ownership
The community members kept on referring to some of the Bible lessons we learned like God’s love, God’s forgiveness and loving others.
Other Program Observations
Ikumbya has the best smeared stoves. Mostly Catherine”s stove.
Program Expected Of Village
To mobilize members to attend the meeting next time.
Program Staff Preparations Next Visit
