Notes
Alex went to meet with the water user committee and continue with the training about their roles and responsibilities for every water committee member. All the members left the meeting knowing their respective roles and responsibilities and knowing that the borehole shall remain functioning at all times if only and only the water user committee is active all the time and know what to do. When the water users follow the laws enacted on the borehole and the water committee ensures that they are working then even when Kibo leaves their village at one point, they will continue to enjoy safe drinking water from their well. On the other hand, the village hasn’t got all the materials required to build the new fence and Alex encouraged the water user committee to step up and get all these materials. They were all told that the new well wouldn’t be opened for use until all the remaining steps are met. They have only managed to get 1500 bricks so far but are fundraising more from all the village people to get the remaining materials. Before the meeting, Alex moved around the village to check on some of the people who were affected by the rains in December last year and on a very good note some people were found busy working to replace them and others were encouraged to replace those fallen facilities most especially the many pit latrines that collapsed during the rains. Now that the rains have gone, the village has been encouraged to work on their sanitation facilities during this dry period and they are being encouraged to use better methods and invest money to dig pit latrines and other facilities that can withstand rains and storms since their soils are so soft because of the too much sand. Alex shall continue to go back to Kisiro to complete all the remaining steps before the borehole is commissioned.
