Notes
While in the village, Tom was joined by three committee members who took him around the village checking in facilities such as latrines, dish racks and showers that residents have constructed. They started off from the borehole towards the upper section. As they moved, they found three homes all neighboring each other. They all had new pits being dug and one of them was already done. Tom and the committee members were able to guide the resident who had finished his pit on how to construct on it. He had already brought logs for putting on the pit but some were not of good quality. Tom encouraged the resident to get other better logs as the ones he had would be dangerous to put on the pit. Tom and the committee members also advised the resident to mix mud and put it on the logs one they are put on the pit as compared to just using loose soil. The resident was very happy for that knowledge. He also asked to be guided on his new shower facility and Tom advised him to use cement on the last line of the shower. As they moved from that home, they reached another home where the resident finished the pit a while ago but had not yet constructed on it. The pit was also starting to collapse. Tom advised the resident to construct on the pit if he is to use it as it was going to collapse and he will have to do it again. The resident said he was saving money to construct a concrete slab on it instead of using logs. Tom advised him to cover the pit as it was also dangerous to other residents in the village as well as animals. In other homes, they found new dish racks and also new rubbish pits. Tom also encouraged one woman in one home to smear her kitchen after the man had constructed it. Tom was also encouraging residents to construct hand washing stands to improve on there hand washing
