- Notes
- While in the village, Tom moved around with Mr Matia who is one of the committee members as well as two more members one who is a leader and representative of the elderly in the village.
They moved in the section of the village from Mr Matia’s home towards the mosque. As they walked, they were checking on what residents were doing in terms of sanitation improvements and encouraging them on construction methods and facilities standards.
As they moved, they found new pits and new latrines that recently were constructed. In one home, Tom and the committee members found a new pit being dug but the pit was not being dug well. Tom and the committee members encouraged the resident to dig another pit as the one he was digging was not going to last him and it was also dangerous. The resident agreed to dig another pit. In another home, they found a lady who had constructed a dish rack for her family but it was below standard. Tom appreciated her for her willingness and efforts to construct a dish rack. Tom encouraged the committee members to visit her later and guid her or if possible help her on constructing a new and better dish rack. One of the committee members Mr Matia agreed to help and guide her on the construction of a better dish rack. In another section of the village, they found two residents still practicing open defecation. One of the residents goes in the coffee plantation while the other in the cassava plantations.
But by the time Tom and the committee members reached their homes, they did not find the residents. One of the committee members promised to visit each of them later in the day and encourage them to construct latrines. Tom and the committee members also moved while encouraging residents about the construction of hand washing stands. They were able to see 6 newly constructed hand washing station and Tom encouraged the committee members to continue encouraging residents about the construction of hand washing stands so they it improves on hand washing in there homes.
