Healthy and Safe Kitchens

Suzan and Jessica went to the upper side of the village purposely to monitor the stove building progress and the maintenance of the healthy and safe kitchens facilities. When they arrived there, they found some group members and their leaders gathered at the meeting place. The members welcomed them to the village,and after exchanging greetings and discussing about some program activities going on so far, the chairperson requested everyone to get up and walk around the village visiting each member’s home while monitoring their facilities. This was intended to see weather the facilities were well maintained and used or neglected. During the whole process, many of the members were found cooking on their fuel efficient stoves and had smeared all their buildings as well as constructed new strong dish racks. Some members reported termites to have destroyed their dish racks and kitchen roofs,saying that they were going to reconstruct/rebuild them when they got free time. About 9 group members didn’t have kitchens and had poor bathrooms, latrines which needed repair. Kibo staff thanked the members for embracing the healthy and safe kitchens program and requested them to continue maintaining their facilities always for this would greatly improve on their healthy wellbeing. The members were also requested to assist their fellow members who were unable to carry out some activities on their own such as constructing kitchens, smearing their buildings simply because they were old and sickly. They thanked Kibo staff for the visit and advice given and promised to work together as a community and help their fellow vulnerable members in improving and building their facilities. Suzan wished everyone happy stay and the meeting came to an end.
