Notes
When Tom arrived in the village, he was welcomed by one of the village leaders (a lady near the borehole). She said she was very happy that Tom had gone back to her village. Right after Tom’s arrival, she started complaining about her two neighbors who have not been able to construct latrines. She was very specific about two residents around her home. One is the caretaker of the borehole but she does not have a latrine as well as another resident. She requested Tom that before they are to move in any other home in the village, they first started with those two. Tom also agreed and together with her they moved to those two homes. In one home of the caretaker of the borehole still had nothing and was not even digging a new pit. But for the other neighbor, he had started on a new pit. This made her very happy that one of her neighbors was getting a latrine. She had said that he had decided not to finish her new Latrine because they would fill it up and then she would incur another cost. To also encouraged the residents to dig new pits for the latrines and improve on there homes. After there, To. Was joined by two other, committee members and they moved to the lower section were they encouraged residents to smear and roof there latrines if they can’t afford iron sheets. This is because they saw two latrines that had collapsed a d one of the reasons was that they were not roofed. In one home they found a new kitchen being roofed while in another home, only the pit was done. Tom encouraged residents to work and improve on there facilities as the rainy season is soon starting. Tom also asked some of the committee members about the contribution for the iron sheets and the construction of the ha d washing stands. Tom requested the chairman of the village to mobilize the villlage for a meeting were a discussion about sanitation and hygiene improvements will be aired. Tom after left for jinja.
