Notes
Tom made a visit to igerera B village to meet with the committee members to discuss with them the new quarterly evaluation form that the committee members need to carry out every quarter in there village. The evaluation form is for both sanitation and hygiene maintenance as well as borehole management. When Tom arrived in the village, he found when the chairman and other committee members were waiting at the chairman’s place. After greeting they shared with Tom about the sanitation and hygiene levels in the Village. They were all very happy to tell Tom that even though some latrines collapsed during the rainy season especially for those that did not roof with iron sheets, many residents have reconstructed and that they village residents are very happy for the sanitation and hygiene standards. The chairman also informed Tom of other residents who contributed money for the iron sheets after their latrines collapsed. After the sharing about the sanitation and hygiene in the village, Tom shared with the committee members about the new evaluation forms. The committee members were very happy to have the forms and they said the forms and the quarterly evaluations will help keep residents engaged with the program and continue maintaining. The chairman was very positive that the evaluation forms will help even improve on the sanitation the more. After the chairman of the village spoke about how the iron sheets and the jericans given by Kibo have helped his village. He said the clear example about the benefits of the iron sheets came during the rainy season were most of the latrines that collapsed were only for those residents that had not contributed for the iron sheet hence their latrines were not roofed and collapse. But for those that roofed with iron sheets, their latrines survived the rainy season. This forced many residents who had not contributed earlier for the iron sheet to do so and also requested for iron sheets. He also said the jericans have greatly helped and have improved on the hand washing practice in the village.
