- Notes
- Alex and Chris went to Budumba village and met with 19 men and 24 women to discuss about the benefits of trees and how trees are related to human beings. This meeting was intended to make sure people knew what was expected of them from kibo and also make sure they have the needed knowledge about planting trees however Chris and Alex B felt there was also a need to discuss with the members how well they can plan for their future by having to know where to plant which kind of tree.
Alex B and Chris started by moving around the village visiting home to home because first of all they wanted to establish a relationship with the community to identify core issues and come up with a plan to address the identified core issues. Chris and Alex divided the members into two groups and each moved in different direction however Chris observed that Budumba has a flat land scape which is favorable for mvule and musizi tree growth however brick laying and charcoal burning are the two major economic activities taking place which explains why cutting trees is so rampant.
By the time Alex B and Chris came back for the meeting, everyone had realized and acknowledged that there was low tree coverage and a lot of trees were being cut for charcoal and burning bricks without replacing them and so for that reason they embraced the Mvule Community development program of planting trees.
Mrs Rebecca one of the community members wanted to know how many Mvule trees she can be able to plant on her small piece of land however Chris advised her to plant one mvule tree 30 meters from her house to leave more space for planting her crops.
Alex B asked the members who were willing to plant trees to raise up their hands and almost all the members raised their hands which showed that they actually embraced the whole idea of planting trees.
Alex and Chris promised to visit the community members on 26th February to discuss more about how to plant trees.
