Notes
Introduction Lorna went to Mpumiro Primary School to take a Pre-test to the pupils of this School. A Pretest guides the Kibo staff to know which lesson or topic to teach first. Overview When Lorna arrived, the teacher was not sure on whether we should sit outside or in the class but Lorna told him that we will always be meeting in one of the classes despite the fact that they are small , they were able to fit in the primary six class. This arrangement took up some of our time but after they got the class, Lorna mentioned to both the teacher and children that this will be the class from now on.Lorna met 120 pupils that includes primary 6 and 7 and a few from primary 5 where she was able to give them a Pretest on Decision making. Since the last general meeting with the pupils they mentioned that some of their challenges were menstrual hygiene and Management , early pregnancy and early marriages. These challenges all fall under Decision making therefore the Pretest being on Decision making. The test ran for 1 hour and Lorna mentioned to the pupils during the test that they should try as much as possible to think through the questions before answering but also that they should not be scared because this test is not to scare them but guide the teacher. After the test, Lorna handed over the books, pens, Manila cards, markers and masking tape to the Life Skills teacher . After all this, Lorna gave the pupils each a bottle of soda and biscuits which got them too excited and they were very thankful. The Life Skills teacher said this was a good motivation. After all the pupils had got a snack, she requested them for a few more minutes so as to demonstrate to them how to brush well under the lesson on Personal hygiene. Lorna was able to pick out 30 volunteers whom she handed toothbrushes and toothpastes and she was able to demonstrate to them how to brush properly. She reminded them the importance of brushing their teeth as well as the number of times they were to brush and ensure that they clean their brushes well and dry them well too. She also encouraged those without toothbrushes to use the local sticks as not having a tooth brush should not prevent them from brushing. Conclusion The Life Skills teacher thanked Lorna for motivating the pupils and for the demonstration on how to properly brush their teeth as this even caught the attention of the different other teachers. He mentioned that they are ready to work hand in hand with Kibo. After this Lorna came back to jinja.
