- Suzan went to Kagulu A to follow up on the smearing of the buildings and the construction of the high risen firewood storages. When she got there, she went to the meeting place and met some of the members and their group leaders sitting while discussing issues concerning the development of their community.
Suzan was warmly welcomed, and after exchanging greetings, the group chairperson first made a few updates concerning the program activities. He said that they had gone ahead building fuel efficient stoves for their fellow members who didn’t have kitchens by then and those at the neighboring villages.
This enabled them to get some money which they saved in their savings group account as well as providing for their families. This was so impressive to hear although out of the 36 members, a few participated in the building process. Later after, they got up and began walking around the village while visiting home to home.
This was intended to see weather each participant’s facilities such as the stoves, latrines, kitchens, rubbish pits, shower areas and dish racks were in a good state or not. The good news was that almost all the members were happily cooking on their new fuel efficient stoves and had maintained their facilities especially the dish racks, latrines and shower areas.
Some members had only smeared their kitchens and left other buildings which also needed to be smeared. About 8 members were found with no high risen firewood storages in their kitchens and Suzan encouraged each member to improve on their sanitation and hygiene by smearing all their houses so as to avoid mosquitoes,dust and snakes from entering, as well as putting up the firewood storages in their kitchens which would help them save firewood for daily use.
The members were so grateful for the lessons and advice given that day,promising to improve of their facilities and the meeting finally came to an end wishing each other a happy stay.
