Notes
After meeting and discussing with the committee members on how to get residents lagging behind, they moved around to check on facility constructions and improvements. In the meeting, they discussed about why residents were lagging behind. One committee member said one of the reasons was that some residents are lazy while others promise to construct latrines and other facilities that are more expensive then they can afford. The village leader said for the lazy residents, he was going to visit their homes and speak with them and if they don’t work, he suggested of reporting them to the government offices. On the issue of residents promising to construct better facilities yet they can’t afford them, the committee members promised to speak to individual residents and encourage them to construct facilities that they can afford as long as they are to good standards. When they left the meeting, they moved around the village and were able to see new latrines being constructed and new pits being dug. One resident who is the vice chairman of the village, had constructed the concrete slab. Tom advised him to wait for the slab to dry before construction of the wall can start. Tom also encouraged him to make sure that he roofs the latrine when the construction of the wall is done. In another home, they found the resident construction the latrine. Tom advised him to mix dirt and put it on the floor of the latrine pit. The mud floor is better and stronger when it dries compared to loose soil. As they moved around, they also encouraged other residents on improving on their facilities especially the shower facilities and the kitchen. Tom encouraged the committee members to continue encouraging residents on sanitation and hygiene improvements.
