Notes
Tom made a visit to kishaike village tomcheck on sanitation and hygiene improvements as well as encouraging residents on facility improvements and construction. When he arrived in the village, he was joined by three committee members. One of the members suggested that they move to the lower section of the village as there were some residents who were not improving. When they reached the lower section, in one home they found one young man digging a pit for his latrine. They encouraged him and also advised him on how to dig the pit as the pit he was digging was a little wider. Tom also encouraged him and advised to first take off a layer of dirt during the construction phase. The young man also promised that to help dig a new pit for his mum who also lacks a latrine in her home. They also moved to another home of a vht whose Latrine recently collapsed when a tree they were cutting down. He said he had stalked to somebody to start on the digging of the pit. He said that the person had slowed him down so he was looking at doing it himself. Tom urged the vht to work hard so that he can lead by example. Tom and the committee members moved to the home next to the vht and found when there was a pit recently dug and the floor was constructed but without a structure. The residents were using the latrine. Tom and the committee members wanted to meet with the residents in the home but they were not there. Tom and the committee members requested the vht to encourage his neighbors to construct a structure on the pit. They also moved in other homes and in one particular home, they encouraged a resident who has a pit that he dug a while ago to consonant it. The resident said he wanted to construct a permanent latrine using concrete and bricks. The committee members asked him if he has the materials and he had not bought any materials yet. The committee members advised him to use local materials such as logs and mud to construct a latrine for his home instead of waiting till he gets the money yet he had not place to go for defecation. Tom also in many homes was encouraging residents about the construction ofmhand washing stands to improve on there hand washing. Tom also encouraged residents who semdish racks had gotten old to replace them.
