Suzan went to the village to meet with a few local leaders after a three months country lockdown. The main purpose for this visit was to discuss about the way forward to the program continuation, how to continue operating while following the Covid-19 guidelines. When she arrived there, she found some of the local leaders such as the l.c.1, and the VHT madam kansime, already gathered at the meeting place with the some committee members.
She was warmly welcomed to the village that day, and after exchanging greetings, the program chairperson made some updates about the current situation in their village concerning the Coronavirus disease. She said that some people were following The World Health Organization guidelines against the spread of the deadly virus and almost every home had water in a jerrycan and a piece of soap at its entrance which was so encouraging.
The village people always tuned in and got updated about the disease over their radios while a few others watched and listened through televisions. Many of them only put on their masks whenever they were going somewhere or visiting one another although some didn’t use them completely saying they were feeling uncomfortable such as struggling to breath.
According to the leaders, the members had managed to maintain some facilities and were cooking on their fuel efficient stoves without any difficulties although some things such as the bathrooms, latrines, dish racks and kitchen roofs needed to be reconstructed due to the previous rains which destroyed them. About four members who had no kitchens by the time the program began, managed to build them and even received the new stoves in their kitchens.
Suzan requested the leaders to inform the community to avoid big gatherings for a while whenever they were doing something or any activity and also to see that they repaired and smeared their houses only as family members or close relatives.
In the next meeting, Kibo staff would carry out a home to home visit and only the staff would enter into the kitchen and ask questions concerning the stove and the firewood storage while the owner replies while standing outside.
A few homes about six of them would be monitored in a day so as to save time, and the leaders accepted all the new suggested ideas and the meeting came to an end.
