Introduction Lorna went to Mpumiro village to meet with the chairman and to introduce Life Skills Program to the community. Overview On arrival, Lorna found the chairman and the few other members already seated waiting for them. Lorna and her driver washed their hands as there was a jerrycan and soap for visitors before sitting down at the meeting place. Since they were all present and there was no need to wait for anyone, the meeting started with a word of prayer and the chairman welcomed Lorna to this village and informed her of how Kibo has helped them sanitation wise. They were very proud of the facilities that have so far been built due to Kibo’s efforts and requested for a borehole. They also commented on the handwashing facilities that it was as though Kibo knew covid was coming and prepared them to wash their hands. Therefore when covid came most of them already were washing their hands to prevent diseases. They talked more about covid and the measures they were taking to ensure that they prevented themselves from contracting this virus. They mentioned washing hands, keeping social distance, not shaking each other’s hands, hugging and also not touching the eyes , nose and mouth minus washing hands. Lorna asked them if they believe that this virus is actually real and can kill. They said for them they do because they have heard how other people have died due to this virus in other countries. About wearing masks none of them really had masks but Lorna encouraged them to wear them especially when in crowded places like funerals, trading centers etc. She encouraged them that prevention is a personal decision that you do not do it for others but yourself and to protect your family. She encouraged them to keep on following the government directives and pray that someday we will overcome. She then introduced herself and also mentioned that she is not new to this place because she has been teaching at the Primary School. The chairman confirmed that he did see her at the School. She also asked how many LCs are in this village and they said 10 . She was however more interested in the Lcs that have the most children coming from Mpumiro Primary and they mentioned 3 of them. They will discuss with a Manuela on how to go about teaching these communities. She then told them the meaning of Life Skills and mentioned that the program is both for the Children and also the parents, youth at large. She introduced to them all the skills taught under Life skills program and mentioned that in the near future she would love to introduce these lessons to the village of a Mpumiro. They welcomed the program very much and mentioned that they will mobilize themselves when the time comes. Conclusion Lorna thanked them for coming and asked the the chairman to followup for her on how the pupils are doing, any cases of early pregnancies , marriages so as to find a way of confronting those issues.
