Notes
Martin and Chris visited Ibaako village , during the previous visit the Chairman permitted Martin and Chris to move home to home to check the standards of sanitation facilities and advice the members to improve where necessary however, the Chairman also requested Martin and Chris to work hand in and with the government to encourage the community members to follow guidelines regarding covid19. Martin and Chris visited a 75 year old lady called Nabirye, this lady stays with her two grand daughters ,her toilet was so old to the extent of falling down , she kept on promising to build a strong toilet, when Martin and Chris visited her, they found a nice looking toilet, she has become a good example in the community. It was encouraging to find about ten new toilets being constructed, all boreholes had hand washing facilities were being used. Asked about how they have managed to maintain sanitation in their community despite KIBO’s absence , the borehole Chairperson said the VHTs and the WASH committee have been encouraging them to build kitchens, construct dish racks, washing hands and so on , he said this would not have been possible with out the empowerment from KIBO. The challenge Martin and Chris found was that some members were complaining that the tools kibo gave the community were not being evenly distributed and yet they have to beat kibo’s deadline of making sure every sanitation facility is in place. As Martin and Chris were winding up, they observed that at least the toilet coverage in the whole community was fair except a few homes which were still sharing toilets but Chris and Martin promised to go back on Monday 6th 2020 to encourage the remaining homes to put in place sanitation facilities.
