Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Suzan and Jessica went to the lower side of the village called Buluvu B with a purpose of meeting the local leaders and some committee group members. This was to to discuss about the way forward to the continuation of the healthy and safe kitchens program after the previous country lockdown due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus (Covid-19). When they got there, they found about three leaders already sitting at the meeting place waiting and among them was the group chairperson Ms Batambuze who warmly welcomed Kibo staff to the village. The chairperson informed them how some members had gone for a funeral which was taking place at the neighboring village, and this was after they had lost one of their former elderly leader in the following night. Suzan and Jessica felt sorry for their loss and requested the chairperson to inform them about the ideas that will be discussed in the meeting that day. The chairperson agreed to that and then began updating Kibo staff about the program activities which were still going on in their village. She said that almost all the members were happily cooking on their new fuel efficient stoves without any complaints and some of them managed to smear all their buildings. The storms washed off some kitchen roofs together with the dish racks in some homes which needed reconstruction. Also due to the outbreak of the corona Virus, the group members stopped any activity that involved big gatherings such as building stoves at their neighboring villages. This was after listening to the news concerning the prevention of the virus over the radios as most of them didn’t have televisions. The chairperson also reported saying that some community members needed more knowledge concerning the corona virus disease because most of them were seen moving around the village without face masks yet they were also not keeping social distance. Suzan advised the leaders to inform other members to strictly follow the Covid-19 guidelines while at their homes and outside their village, for this would enable them stay safe with their families. Also the program activities were to resume once again but involving a few members so as to maintain social distance. Meanwhile the main activities would be moving home to home while monitoring different facilities, and this will be carried out in very small groups. The members agreed to the new suggested ideas and the meeting came to an end wishing one another a happy stay.
