Notes
Harriet made a surprise visit to Kitukiro village after Healthy and Safe kitchen program had taken a couple of weeks with out visiting this village. She wanted to find out whether the participants have maintained their stoves that is cooking on them or daily basis , if not what is the challenge as well as maintaining smearing and firewood storage stands. She was welcomed by the Chairperson of the village who thanked the lord who enabled kibo to visit their village again . Harriet him about how the village has been doing and he said thank he has not recently visited different homes but he soon plans to visit them. Harriet asked him if he can volunteer to walk with her to different homes as asses the level of sustainability of Healthy and Safe kitchen program. They walked through 24 homes and found when some kitchens though they had stoves that they were using on daily basis were leaking which may spoil their stoves. HARRIET together with the chairperson talked to such families and encouraged them to roof their kitchens and they said that they are waiting to harvest rice very soon so that they can use rice husks to roof their kitchens . They also found most kitchens are not smeared and encouraged them to smear them again.Firewood storage is still lagging behind and the participants because most of the firewood risen stand were empty that is not stocked with wood and they said that they used the firewood that they had stocked during the rainy Season. Harriet encouraged them to re-stock them again so that they have enough firewood that they will use during the time of scarcity. Also hygiene in the kitchens has really declined because some kitchens were found unswept, this gave kibo staff an opportunity to remain them on the importance of maintaining good sanitation and hygiene practices in their homes. For instance the mobilizer of the Healthy and Safe kitchen program in this village was found cooking in a smoky kitchen due to ash that had blocked the small hole that takes fire to the small stove. HARRIET asked her to remove the ash and immediately smoke was led out of the kitchen. 95% of the people that were visited on that day were found using their stoves .The Chairperson thanked kibo for visiting his village , he said he was challenged by kibo approach to find out what was happening in his village before he knew , he felt motivated and promised kibo to follow up with some of the homes that needed to improve on their facilities.
