Notes
Harriet made a surprise visit to Igerera B and this was intended to find out whether the participants who got stoves before the covid 19 started using their stoves and if not why or what could be the challenge. She found the chairperson LC1 Charles who volunteered to walk with her through the homes that got stoves before covid 19. He added that he knows all the homes Because he is a Chairperson of the village and also a member of the Healthy and Safe kitchen program in this village. Harriet told him that this time she wants to concentrate on upper section because kagulu village is big. The chairperson told Harriet to begin with his home that lacked a kitchen before and therefore he could not get a stove during that time . He also said that as the stoves committee they agreed to first build stoves for all the group members and for them they will get the stoves later because they wanted to lead by example. Interestingly Harriet looked at his kitchen which was under construction which was very cool. He said he had a poor kitchen that he felt was not Good enough for the fuel efficient stoves and decided to build a better one. They walked through around 21 homes where by some did not have stoves though they were members because due to the outbreak of covid they stopped gathered thus an able to build stoves for the remaining participants who were active in a group. Also some had smeared their kitchens getting ready to get stoves while others were demoralizing by covid 19 because they did not hope kibo to go back to their village to get stoves. HARRIET encouraged them to improve / smear their facilities in preparation for stove building. However other members who got stoves before covid19 were busy cooking on them on daily basis and were well smeared except for Kakuku Laston and Mpata Ali who said that their small stoves don’t cook. These stoves were built by the community on their own and were poorly built. Harriet told them to be using only one cooking area which works effectively and kibo will come back to fix the problem. The community was encouraged to see Harriet visiting them in their homes and they said they felt loved by kibo that has always visited them and corrected their mistakes.
