Notes
Introduction Lorna went to Bulyowa and the purpose was to meet with the pupils from Bulyowa Primary in the community as well as other pupils and students from different Schools, concerning early pregnancy. Overview On arrival the pupils were still doing house chores however, after a few minutes they started to come one by one . They were shy at first but later they begun opening up. Lorna picked one Ederesa to open for us with a word of prayer and after that he led us through the 3 anthems of Uganda, Busoga and the women’s Anthem. Lorna thanked them all and started by introducing themselves and thereafter on a light note asked them if they were helping their parents with house chores and they said yes. Lorna went to thank them for doing that and encouraged them not to get tired. She also told them if they do this it will encourage their parents to pay for them school fees. She also told them not to minimize their parents jobs whether a brick layer, builder, Potter, carpenter as it is these jobs that are taking care of them. She also encouraged them about school for them not to give up because of this covid pandemic but to keep praying and keep studying their books as well as staying out of trouble. After these she went on and told them that they were going to talk about early pregnancy. She mentioned that many children of their age are getting pregnant and it is not right because their future is being ruined. She asked them what are some of the causes of early pregnancy. They mentioned poverty, lack of basic needs like pads, Lorna encouraged the girls that during this time they can talk to their parents and ask them for help and for the boys she asked them to support their sisters and see to it that they don’t miss school because they made fun of them. Lorna said that like boys can be doctors, lawyers, even girls can and that they should be treating them the same. Another was alcoholic parents, Bad peer groups where Lorna encouraged them not to let anyone force them into being what they are not or doing something they are uncomfortable with. Child labor where the child is over worked at the point where she/ he gets tired and decides to run away from home to where she will get problems . Lorna mentioned instead the children should find time and talk to their parents respectfully and tell them they are tired let them rest and then continue later. She discouraged them from going to the boreholes and spending time their because if they go home, they will make them do a lot of work so, they would rather stay at the borehole until late which can put them in compromising situations. They also mentioned walking at night. Lorna urged them to resist walking at night because they can be raped or defiled hence early pregnancy. She also told the girls to dress decently so as not to attract the bad men from touching them or raping them. Also she encouraged them to avoid free gifts because they will have to pay for it in another way. They also looked at the dangers for example ; death, HIV/ AIDS, School dropout , shame, stigma, imprisonment, early marriages, parental neglect, face denial from the person responsible among others. Conclusion Lorna concluded by picking on 6 pupils and students to tell the rest of them what they had learnt. She encouraged them to respect their parents, be disciplined and always remember to pray . She also told them that the only person that can destroy themselves is themselves. They have the power to say NO to early pregnancy, to sex, to Alcohol to Bad peer groups. She also reminded them that they were responsible for their actions.

The homes I saw had latrines and the first borehole as you enter the village lacks a fence and the soak pit is full. Lorna encouraged Mpata the mobilizer to do something about it.
