Notes
Alex was in Budumba to meet with the community members about coming up with a new water user committee and teaching about the community contributions towards the borehole and why it’s important to contribute this money. He first checked again on the homes that were still doing something in their homes. He visited Talenga’s home and had finished all the facilities and roofing on them. His home is now one of the cleanest in the village and yet he was one of the slowest people in the village. He was praised for making his home one of the beautiful homes in the village. There are other people like Grace Mugabane, Abdul and Lubaale who had brought the materials to build the structures on their new pits. Alex then guided the community as they were selecting a new water committee. He encouraged the community to select the women in the key positions of the treasurer, the chairperson, secretary and the caretaker. They selected 8 people on the committee 5 women and 3 men were selected on the committee. He then talked about the contributions that the community had to make before the steps of drilling and surveying and why it’s important to do so. It’s important that the community knows from the beginning that this is not a Kibo borehole. The community has to contribute 300,000sh before the borehole commissioning and they have to fundraise money to feed the workers. This also creates a sense of ownership from the beginning and everyone is responsible and participates in the process. Alex will go back on 5/ 03 and continue preparing the community going through more steps and training of the water committee to know the roles to play.
