Notes
Harriet went to Ikumbya to follow up on stove usage, smearing of stoves and kitchens as well as construction of firewood risen stands for firewood storage. She also had planned to meet the Community development officer at the subcounty and later move with her to village so that she can see the different activities kibo has done in this community. This is a new community development officer at the subcounty who says that she was not familiar with kibo activities in the subcounty. so Harriet wanted to travel with her to the community for her to see by herself what kibo has done on ground. Unfortunately HARRIET reached at the sub county offices and did not find her in her office.Harriet decided to proceed to the village to find out whether the participants still use the stoves or abandoned them because she has taken a while with out visiting this village. She reached in the village and was welcomed by the Chairperson of the Healthy and Safe kitchen program Jane Wankuluna who thanked God for providing journey mercies to Harriet to visit their village once again on behalf of kibo. HARRIET asked Jane to walk with her to the homes of participants as she inspected on the stoves and other facilities. It was very interesting to see all the participants who got stoves were cooking them on daily basis and this was evidenced by the absence of three stones fire in the kitchen, in some homes she found food cooking by itself. As far as construction of the firewood storage stands some people had firewood storage stands however some were not stocked with firewood. HARRIET encouraged them to construct firewood risen stands and stock them with firewood. Also as far as smearing is concerned most people had not smeared their facilities expect two homes for Rose and Nabirye. Harriet talked to the participants to take Nabirye example to smear their facilities so that they look neat and last longer. She also requested Nabirye to follow up with them and teach them how to best smear their facilities. The participants also told HARRIET that they had started building stoves in Other villages outside Ikumbya but due to the outbreak of covid 19 they decided to pause and plan to resume very soon. Mr. Balidawa Paul told Harriet that because of the stove he is also able to help his wife to cook food for the family or at times cook together because it has provided a conducive atmosphere in the kitchen due to the absence of smoke. Harriet also encouraged the participants to maintain their borehole fence and ensure that their jerrycans are always kept clean in order to maintain sanitation and hygiene. The community thanked Harriet or behalf of Kibo for visiting their village and the encouragement they always give them when ever they visit their village.
