Alex took out a total of 30 hand washing jerrycans to be distributed to the village residents that had completed constructing the hand washing facility stands in their homes. WASH decided to gift every home that has managed to construct a hand washing facility and in a way to promote hand washing among the village residents. WASH group has decided to give out these jerrycans in phases because not all the village people will complete construction of these stands at the same time. This was the first phase to be taken having got a report from the sanitation committee that 30 homes were ready, had finished constructing these stands and plastered them. Alex together with the village chairman and two sanitation committee members went home to home giving out these Jerrycans to people that had completed constructing these stands. Many of the people were surprised to receive this gift from kibo as they were not expecting it at the moment. There are more than 40 other new hand washing stands that have not been plastered and this gift of a jerrycan will also help those to speed up and complete them. To every home that received a jerrycan from kibo was very happy for the new idea from kibo and all the people were encouraged to only use these Jerrycans for hand washing and not to send the kids to fetch water in them. Alex and the committee members were unable to reach the target number of homes in the village because there was a funeral in the village that was taking place in the afternoon. Alex plans to go back on Friday to continue follow up on hand washing in the village and distribute hand washing jerrycans to individuals that have completed constructing the stands and also continue to encourage the village residents about the other facilities also. Alex’s goal by the end of this month in Butabira is to complete hand washing in the village and push the village to at least a middle stage on the side of the other facilities.

2020-08-21 - Purpose: Continue follow up on hand washing and other sanitation facilities especially pit latrine construction.
