Notes
WASH picked Nabikenge and Igerera B villages as demo villages to test out the community self evaluation surveys that are to be conducted on quarterly basis by the village sanitation and water committee members. This new project was meant to start back in April but this was hampered by COVID-19 lock down. The village was meant to have submitted those forms on quarterly basis to kibo group having evaluated themselves without WASH. This new project is to help kibo group track down the level of sustainability in the village. Such villages are those where WASH has exited and would love to see the village maintain the required sanitation and water standards. WASH staff together with Ben West came up with two forms, household survey form and water user committee form to be conducted by the village in 4 quarters. This means that the first quarter will be done on October 1. Alex met with the village chairman and 4 sanitation committee members to discuss about how this will be conducted again. He reminded them to remain active in what they are supposed to do and to make sure that the water and sanitation standards are maintained in the village without Kibo being present. This is the only way we will know that the village can move on its own and it’s sustainability is achieved. Checking on some of the homes, Daniel had still maintained a good picture and was encouraged to keep up the good sanitation standards. He promised to work on his dish rack that had collapsed. Nabirye’s home one of the cleanest the time WASH was in the village, she was had maintained most of her facilities and she was encouraged to keep up the standards. The village chairman Mr Ssegonga was reminded that he has to work very closely with the sanitation and water committees for the good of their village. The borehole had some breakdowns a few weeks ago but the village quickly worked together to fix it by buying a new cylinder. They were encouraged to start replacing the old fence that had started to fall apart. These two forms are to be submitted to WASH by the village on October 1.
