Notes
Irene went to kagulu village to teach about childhood illnesses then after the lesson she decided to move home to home for those mothers who attend the lessons. Irene discussed the causes of pneumonia and among the common causes women gave smoke from the cooking areas for the people with out the saving stoves as one of the most common cause of pneumonia in their children, mai said staying for a long time in the cold for those with poor ventilation and lack beings for their family members as the other major cause among others. Irene then asked for some of the solutions to these and women gave avoiding cooking from open flames because fire wood generates a lot of smoke so once one has a saving stoves then they do away with smoke, save money for proper ventilation and buying beddings for the family members so as to avoid paying a lot of money in the hospitals for medication. Irene moved to these homes to find out the hygiene and the general appearance of the homes in this particular section of the village that she had never visited. Some of the homes were clean with saving stoves but some of them were in poor condition and poor hygiene so she talked to the women in those homes about the hygiene, benefits of saving stoves and the importance of a dish rack. The mothers and their husbands promised Irene that the next time she visits there will be a change.
