Notes
Harriet and Tape went to Naibowa to check whether the participants have smeared at least 10 homes as it was agreed in the previous meeting . Incase found smeared such number of kitchen then a demonstration stove would be built in this village. They found the participants waiting for them at the meeting place and were busy chopping more grass. The meeting begun with an open prayer that was led by pastor Wilber. Harriet asked the participants to update kibo on the number of kitchen they have so far smeared. The participants said that they have so far smeared at least 10 kitchen from the time kibo left their village. This was a sign of commitment. Pastor Wilber told the group that before kibo started working in his village he did not know that his kitchen would look neat and nice after been smeared and roofed very well.He added that when the group suggested his home to be a demonstration home for kibo to carry out smearing it was a challenge to him and he denied it thus committed himself to smear and roof it himself which he did. He said that being a religious leader as well as the vice chairperson of the village it would set a bad example for the entire village and may be it would lead to him losing respect. Kibo staff asked the participants to chose the first participant to get a demonstration stove from the first group( group A)Two proposals came up some People proposed Nandego Florence(an old woman who was the first one to have a smeared facilities in the entire village) while others propped pastor Wilber with a reason he worked tirelessly in a few days to change/ improve his kitchen which was not smeared and leaking. Nandego declined the offer and said pastor Wilber should take it so he becomes more encouraged. Participants supported it and all agreed that the demonstration stove should be for pastor Wilber. Kibo staff together with the community searched for termite dirt, collected it,taught participants how to mix dirt and grass at a ratio of 2:1 basins. Through joint effort participants together with kibo stamped the dirt whereby six people stamped at a time and later others also stamped as others moved out.this aimed at promoting social distance. This because other people from different groups were also eager to see how a stove is built. Then after Tape practically taught participants how to measure banana stems that will be used to build a stove. Then kibo staff built a demonstration stove as they explained The Whole process to participants. This is because the program aims at teaching them how to build stoves. When a stove was complete ,kibo staff asked some participants whether they have learnt some thing on that day. They said at least they have learnt how to mix the dirt and grass and stamp. However some men in the group volunteered to dry to draw how a stove looks like on the ground which was a sign of showing interest and commitment. Unfortunately they all failed but Harriet encouraged them to be patient. Keep on learning in the group as kibo teaches them because it’s a process that they can not learn in one day. The participants thanked kibo for building a demonstration stove in their village and promised to stay working as a team
