Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Suzan went to the village purposely to follow up on the maintenance of the healthy and safe kitchens program facilities such as the construction of the firewood storages, the leaking kitchens which needed to be roofed, the smearing of the stoves and buildings and the case of the child who was previously burnt by the three stones open flames. When she got there, she went to the meeting place and found some group leaders with other members waiting patiently while discussing about some village challenges. They welcomed her to the village and after exchanging greetings, Suzan requested the members to lead her to some homes which had not improved on their facilities. As they walked and visited different homes, it was observed that some members managed to build stronger firewood storages in their kitchens and had smeared both their buildings and stoves which were all looking neat. About five kitchens visited that day needed to be re-roofed because they had very big openings at the top whereby when it rains, the stoves would easily be destroyed together with the firewood stands. Suzan managed to talk to the men responsible for the homes and requested them to assist their wives in solving some home issues since their wives were always piled with a lot of work. They accepted and promised to do so as soon as possible . Later on, Suzan went to a home where a child was burnt and found the little boy happily playing with other children. The wounds were healing very well and the mother was got cooking on her fuel efficient stove which was so impressive. Suzan kept on encouraging the members to see that they always maintained all their facilities and cooked their food on their savings stoves so as to avoid further accidents and other challenges. She thanked them for having a good teamwork spirit and wished them a happy healthy stay.
