Healthy and Safe Kitchens
Notes
Suzan went to the remaining upper section of the village to complete the first evaluation process. When she arrived, she found three committee group leaders, Waiswa, Robert and Faisal who welcomed her to the village. Together they went and started visiting the remaining homes which were not evaluated in the previous meeting. As they walked, Suzan kept on observing different program facilities and saw that most participants have greatly improved on their sanitation and hygiene around their homes especially in the kitchens. She found the women happily cooking on their improved stoves and they reported that they enjoyed cooking on them because they saved a lot of time and firewood, no more accidents because the stoves stay in one place when cooking food. Both the husbands and their wives cooked food together because the stove doesn’t produce smoke in the kitchens. Also most participants have constructed stronger firewood stands and stocked enough firewood on them. Suzan encouraged them to continue maintaining their facilities and to begin building stoves at the neighboring villages which will also enable them earn some money. Suzan was also able to visit 22 homes and shared the evaluation findings with the participants later. She encouraged those with poor structures to improve on them by smearing their buildings or constructing new ones. She also requested the members to always use stronger materials when they are constructing their facilities so that they lasted longer. Together they wished each other a happy stay until the coming meeting.
