Notes
Suzan went to the lower side of the village purposely to follow up on the improvement of the facilities such as smearing of the buildings and the construction of the high risen firewood storages. This was because most community members there were only focusing on the kitchens and left out the other buildings and also had poor constructed firewood stands which can easily collapse. When she arrived there, she was welcomed by some group members who were with their chairperson Faridah at the meeting place. They all suggested they walk home to home as they monitor different facilities. On the way, Suzan observed that some members had managed to smear the other buildings besides the kitchens such as the main building, shower areas and latrines which all looked neat although some roofs need to be reconstructed because they have big leakages at the top. One of the active women Nakiranda Betty reported that some of them posed the smearing activity because they were waiting for the rains to decrease. The rains kept on washing off the mud that was smeared on the outside walls making it hard work to keep repeating. Suzan advised the community to see that they constructed larger roofs which can protect the walls from being washed off by the rains. Betty also said her husband is planning to reconstruct the roofs of her kitchen and the main house using papyrus grass because it lasts longer also making the houses cooler from the inside. Out of the 12 homes visited that day, only four kitchens had constructed stronger firewood stands which also had enough stocked firewood above. Kibo staff thanked the participants for the improvements and encouraged them to continue with the good job so that the entire home looked neat and healthy to live around.
Next Visit
2022-05-16 - Purpose: To continue with the stove building lessons/ guide the participants how to build the stoves on their own.
Program Success
Some members have started cooking on their new improved stoves and have also smeared all their buildings.
Program Critical Needs
There’s still a poor turn up of men in the program activities meaning Kibo staff needs to encourage more men to participate in the program.
Program Ownership
There’s unity and teamwork among the participants which makes the work much easier.
Other Program Observations
Some homes have well maintained sanitation and hygiene facilities such as the hand washing facilities, latrines, dish racks and shower areas.
Program Expected Of Village
Continue improving on their facilities
Program Staff Preparations Next Visit
Plan for the next lessons

29730 Namusita. Kibo staff observed that some participants managed to smear all their buildings including the main houses and shower areas.
29733 Namusita. Suzan found some buildings not smeared and kept on encouraging the women to improve on all their facilities before they get a fuel efficient stove.
29736 Namusita. Suzan found some women cooking food together with their husbands in the kitchens while discussing family issues which was so interesting to see. This was because the kitchens no longer produced smoke.
