Notes
Diana and Ida went to Igerera B, to teach chores and responsibilities according to age group. Diana and Ida got when the members were still in gardens, since there was a heavy downpour. Diana and Ida decided to move around some nearby homes to mobilize the community members. The members kept telling Diana and Ida that they were coming, but still bent on their hoes while digging. Ida and Diana decided to go to the meeting place and waited for the members who were on their way coming. Shortly the chairman Kamya Charles came and joined in the wait. After some time, the community members started coming, they kept saying that the ‘nurses’ forgive us, it rained so much. Ida responded telling them that it is good to dig, because Kibo does not enjoy seeing people die of hunger. Ida therefore encouraged them to dig, however they should not burry themselves in the gardens, Diana added on that they need enough energy to keep them moving in the next day. She however told them that, they should create time for Kibo programs. Ida took them through a recap of the previous lesson, which was the importance of chores and responsibilities in children. Charles said that, the lesson really blessed him so much, he learnt that when children are taught chores, they become responsible children. Robert added on that the lesson of chores and responsibilities, has helped tame his children, they are no longer stubborn, they do their work on time. Ida encouraged the rest of the members to continue teaching their children chores and responsibilities. She welcomed Diana to take them through the lesson of the day. Diana thanked everyone for coming and continued with the lesson of the day which was chores and responsibilities according to age group. Diana asked them at what age they teach their children chores and responsibilities. Faridah said that she starts at the age of five years, by giving them a small jerrican to go for water, at the age of 7 she takes her children to learn how to dig. Sarah said that she starts at the age of three, she teaches her children how to greet people, sweep the compound. Diana continued by asking everyone, and they all responded the particular ages they start to teach their children chores and responsibilities. Diana added on that every parent or care giver should give the children the chores that are appropriate for their ages. For example a child aged 2-3 years, should taught how to pass clothes, set plates and pick up clothes on the floor. The child aged 4-5 years, the child is taught how to put away dishes, fetch water, give a three liter Jerrican to try out, sweep the compound, but in small portion, make them wash plates, water flowers. Ida also added on, saying that when children are given routine chores naturally, there can be resistance, especially while it is still new. However you as parents, don’t give up, they will get used to it with time. Ida and Diana ended there because it was getting late and told the community members that they will continue from there in the next lesson. The chairman Kamya thanked Ida and Diana for the good lesson taught. He also encouraged the community members to always keep time and encourage other members to come for the lessons. Because the lessons are really transforming their community.
