Enock went to check on the progress of latrine construction and other facilities. During his visit, he met with the chairman and VHTs to walk him around this village. They first walked in one of the the VHTs home which had lost their latrine due to heavy rainfall to check and see if he responded quickly and reconstructed a new one. As they went to the VHT Micheals home, they saw some new latrine structure. This showed us how the leaders have embraced the program and know the benefits of having latrines in their homes. After that, we then walked in the neighboring homes were we also saw a great impact. There are 2 newly constructed latrines, 4 new rubbish pits, 5 new dish racks, 7 new latrine holes which they are still digging. Despite of the hard bed rock, the people in this village are determined to dig pit latrines so that they improve their sanitation and hygiene. This is because they have learnt the importance of having latrines, shower areas, dish racks, rubbish pits, kitchen area, clean compounds help in reducing diseases caused by poor sanitation. Sanitation has also been a continuous cause of poverty in many families and this is because families spend much money in medical expenses, kids don’t attend school etc. The are many latrines which are under construction, we continued emphasizing the importance of good sanitation, proper standard facilities, maintenance of latrines and use of ash in latrines to chase flies and keep the homes clean. We encouraged the leaders to be more active and exemplary. I also challenged the leaders to always walk around to encourage there fellow residents. Generally the sanitation of this village is improving according to the assessment and continuous follow ups that we are making.
