Notes
Irene went to kagulu to teach about family planning as requested by the community members due to the myths and miss consumption about family planning. Irene started with questions to the members about family planning to assess their knowledge on the lesson. Naikoba said it’s having few children, waisanga said it’s stopping to have children permanently and many views as the members shared. Irene clarified and gave a clear explanation on family planning as it’s a decision between a couple or an individual on the time period and number of children they are to have. Then Irene asked some of the examples of family planning that the members knew and surprisingly the majority knew about the injection and implant that they referred to as capsules but never used. Irene further explained in detail the different types while demonstrating on the usage, period of time, and benefits of each method. With that understanding the community members asked several questions and were excited to see the different methods that they never heard of like the IUD. We hear once one uses family planning they produce children with abnormalities? Asked one of the members, kasokwe asked, Is it true that once one uses the method the sexual drive reduces and that they can’t perform?, People say pills sit on one’s heart and cause cancer how true is that?, women can’t perform any activities after using some of the methods like implant is that true? And so many questions as the lesson continued. Irene then continued explaining and answering questions as asked and at the end of the lesson members were asking Irene to provide the method but Irene advised them to go to a nearby health center for the services and more information.
