Notes
Harriet and Tape went to Naibowa to meet the local leaders and discuss with them how the healthy and Safe kitchen program can resume working in their village baring in mind the ministry of Healthy guidelines on covid 19. They reached in the village when it was threatening to rain but the local leaders asked kibo staff to meet in the church building since it would be hard to meet under a tree. The meeting begun with an open prayer that was led by pastor Wilber who thanked God for providing journey mercies and led them to serve in their village. The Chairperson LC1 Mr. Lubale welcomed kibo to his village and said that on behalf of his village he welcomes all the programs from kibo because kibo has positively changed his village as far as sanitation and hygiene is concerned. He said that of recently the government did a follow up visit on sanitation and hygiene in the entire sub-county but because most of the people in his village had sanitation and hygiene facilities were passed and most people in the neighboring village were arrested because of lack of sanitary facilities. He added that Kibo’s approach is educative/ sensitization which attracts and helps people to understand why they need such facilities unlike other organizations which force people to do things which has always been hard. Kibo staff re- introduced to them the Healthy and Safe program as the program which teaches communities to build fuel efficient stoves that will vent out smoke in the kitchens, saves times since it cooks two things at ago , uses less fire wood and well as promotes unity in the family since the absence of smoke can attract men to cook food with his wives. Kibo staff asked them to guide them on how to implement the healthy and Safe kitchen program in their village while following the ministry of Healthy guidelines. They said that, in every home at least there is a hand washing stands for every one to wash hands in the prevention of covid 19. They also said that since covid 19 is highly spread in big social gathering , they will divide them selves into small groups of six people so that kibo will meet each group at at a time . This was a great idea that will really work for Healthy and Safe kitchen program. Kibo staff told them that this program has a lot of practical work that needs team work and commitment. The local leaders also said it will work well in small groups, also since there is scarcity of firewood in the village the stove will help them a lot to solve this problem. Kibo staff had planned also to visit some homes and see whether they have quality kitchens where the stoves can be build but because the meeting took longer it wasn’t possible but requested the local leaders to follow up with some homes that may be lacking quality kitchens and encourage them to improve . They also asked them to spread the news to those homes about the healthy and Safe kitchen program in their village. Harriet asked the Chairperson LC1 to mobilize at least four groups of five people each that kibo will meet first and introduce the healthy and Safe kitchens program to them. They promised to do it for the benefit of their village.
