Enock,chairman and the VHTs first walked around the target homes in the trading centre to check the progress of latrine construction, dish racks, shower areas, hand washing facilities, kitchen areas, rubbish pits e.t.c. In some of the homes walked to, they met some ladies busy carrying bricks to the site where they are constructing a new latrine, there was also a young boy of about 12 years who they met constructing a shower area. The other target homes in the trading centre have completed constructing two new latrines and shower areas. Enock and the VHTs also walked in homes outside the trading centre where there were some target homes to also continue checking on the progress of latrine construction and other facilities. The community members are embracing the program and working hard to improve on the sanitation and hygiene levels of the village. There is a big challenge of no grass for roofing the latrine structures. Most of the homes that have completed constructing the latrines and they do not have iron sheets to roof are going to face it rough when rains start falling. This is because they will break down the facilities causing double work and repeating the same things over and again. This gave us another opportunity to teach on sustainability of facilities and using cement, sand, concrete slabs for those who can manage to construct, smearing the structures as they wait for grass to grow so that they can roof, using banana leaves to roof, papyrus stems among other factors. There were some two new kitchen areas which were roofed using banana leaves. This was a very good example for them to see and copy as they wait to get grass. The chairman and VHT promised to continue walking around mobilizing the residents, encouraging them and continue sharing pick Axes to speed up with the work.
